Frequently Asked Questions

At SomaVie, we believe that looking, feeling, and performing your best isn’t a luxury — it’s what you deserve. Our IV vitamin therapy is physician-led, science-backed, and designed to support your body at every stage of life. Here’s what you need to know:

What is IV vitamin therapy?

IV vitamin therapy delivers fluids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants directly into your bloodstream for faster absorption and more noticeable results compared to oral supplements.

What are the benefits of IV therapy?

Clients often report improvements in energy, mental clarity, immune support, hydration, mood, and recovery from stress, travel, or workouts. It’s a whole-body reset designed around your needs.

How long does a treatment take?

Most IV sessions take 30–60 minutes, depending on your formulation and how quickly your body tolerates the infusion.

Is IV therapy safe?

Yes. All treatments are physician-formulated and administered by licensed medical professionals in a clinical setting. This is also why Dr. Gilliatte evaluates every new patient before their first infusion—to ensure IV therapy is appropriate for your unique health status and goals. Every body is different, and your care should reflect that.

How often should I get IV therapy?

It depends on your wellness goals. Some patients come weekly, others monthly, or as needed for immune support, travel recovery, or athletic performance. Maybe you just had a rough night out or stepped off a plane and need serious hydration—we’ll tailor a rhythm that works for you.

How long do the effects of IV vitamin therapy last?

The benefits of IV therapy vary based on the nutrients used, your current health, and your overall lifestyle. Some clients feel an immediate boost in energy, mood, or hydration, while others notice more gradual improvements in recovery and resilience. With consistent treatments and supportive habits like sleep, nutrition, and movement, IV therapy can be a powerful tool for ongoing wellness. We’ll help you find a rhythm that aligns with your goals.

Will it hurt?

You may feel a quick pinch when the IV is inserted, but most people find the treatment very comfortable. After placement, you can relax, read, scroll your phone, or watch TV while your body receives the hydration, nutrients, or therapies it needs.

Mild symptoms can occasionally occur depending on the IV ingredients used. These may include: A sense of warmth or flushing (especially with NAD+ or glutathione), Mild nausea, Lightheadedness or dizziness, Temporary headache, Fatigue or a feeling of "heaviness" during or shortly after the infusion.

You may also experience minor site-related symptoms such as tenderness, redness, or swelling at the IV insertion site. If this occurs, our team is trained and equipped to promptly manage and treat any local symptoms to ensure your comfort and safety.

Your provider will review a full list of possible symptoms, risks, and side effects specific to your chosen IV therapy at the time of your appointment. You are encouraged to discuss any questions or concerns with your provider before starting your infusion.

Who shouldn’t get IV therapy?

IV therapy is safe for most people, but it may not be recommended for those with chronic kidney disease, certain heart conditions, or certain electrolyte imbalances. Dr. Gilliatte will perform a brief initial screening to make sure it’s safe for you

What’s the difference between IV vitamins and taking supplements?

Oral supplements can be a helpful way to support your wellness routine daily. However, they’re not always as effective—especially if you have gut inflammation, absorption issues, or need faster results. IV therapy bypasses the digestive system entirely, delivering nutrients directly into your bloodstream for significantly greater bioavailability. While not technically 100% absorption due to natural variations in cellular uptake and metabolism, IV delivery remains the most efficient way to provide your body with immediate, therapeutic levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Can’t I just get these nutrients through intramuscular (IM) injections?

Intramuscular injections are a great way to get a quick, concentrated dose of certain nutrients—especially when you need a boost between IV treatments. At SomaVie, we offer a variety of IM shots for this reason. However, not all nutrients are suitable for IV infusion. For example, lipid-soluble vitamins like Vitamin D can’t be safely mixed into IV bags, so they’re given as IM injections instead. Your provider will help guide which route is best for your goals.

 Can I customize my IV?

Absolutely. We offer both curated and custom drips based on your goals. While lab work isn’t required for every infusion, if you’re seeking more advanced support, like hormone balance or supporting specific disease states, Dr. Gilliatte may recommend bloodwork to create a tailored formula. All of this can be discussed during your initial consultation. Otherwise, you can simply choose one of our expertly crafted options.

Do I need an appointment?

Your first visit will always begin with an initial consultation, which can be done in person or via telehealth. After that, you’ll be able to book your IV treatments directly online. As a concierge, boutique practice, most of our services are by appointment—but we’re happy to accommodate walk-ins and last-minute mobile IVs whenever possible. We recommend calling or messaging ahead to ensure availability, since we may be with another patient or off-site. Just reach out, and our team will do everything we can to take care of you.
